Alabama Business License Renewals Extended to November 30

November 3, 2011

The Alabama State Commissioner ordered a month-long extension on all state and county business license renewals. Regulations put in place by Alabama’s new immigration law made filing for an Alabama business license just a bit harder this year.

After dealing with long lines at probate offices, many business owners found that they lacked the paperwork necessary to prove their citizenship to qualify for the Alabama business license.

Since October 31, is usually the last day for applying for a business license, the probate offices dealt with a large number of business license renewals towards the end of last month, some of which still require additional paperwork to complete. Business owners are frustrated that their attempts at applying for the necessary papers were unsuccessful.

Benjamin Bullard reports in The Cullman Times that both county officers and business owners are relieved by the extension.

“People don’t mind some of the changes that have taken place, until it starts costing them money, so we were really relieved when the state came down with this order,” said Cullman County Probate Judge Leah Patterson Lust. “The fact that there’s not going to be a late fee is the real relief for some of the folks who have come in here and then had to wait longer to file because they didn’t have all the documentation they needed.”
