Augusta Man Charged for Operating a Teen Party without a Business License

January 26, 2012

Patrick Walton, the owner of Magic City is being charged with operating a teen party without obtaining the requisite Richmond, GA business license. The fact that the murder of a local teen occurred shortly after his attending the teen party at Magic City, further complicates the legal issues facing Patrick Walton.

Since Walton did not have a county business license, he didn’t follow the event regulations that were put in place by licensing authorities for conducting parties. As such he didn’t have police supervision at the party and the revelry ran way beyond teen curfew time; factors that could’ve contributed to the death of 16 year old Kyle Royal.

The lack of the appropriate business licenses wasn’t an innocent mistake on Walton’s part as he just recently lost his Richmond County business licenses for failure to comply with county regulations.

As The Augusta Chronicle reports, “Walton’s business license and occupancy permits were revoked in December after officials determined he was operating with an inappropriate license for the size and type of events that went on there.”

Walton could now face 60 days in jail or face a $1000 fine for those violations.

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties as well as needless aggravation and problems. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which explains exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
