Berkeley Lake offers Tempting Business License Proposal to Unincorporated Peachtree Corners

Businesses in the unincorporated Peachtree Corners have been requesting permission from Gwinnet County to create a city. Neighboring cities are trying to tempt the area to consider annexation before trying to create their own city.

The City of Berkeley Lake in particular, has offered numerous incentives to businesses in Peachtree Corners to try to convince them to choose Berkeley Lake as their preferred mother city. The flat rate Berkeley Lake business license fee is one example of a reason for Peachtree Corner businesses to join the city.

Patch quotes Lois Salter, Berkeley Lake's mayor having said, "We have a large number of people who work from home. Our business license structure is designed with that in mind," she said. "Our business licenses were designed not to penalize people who work from home and the cost is not based on gross receipts but a flat rate.”

Residents and business owners of Peachtree Corners would have to agree to annexation before November 8. If no agreement is reached, eligible voters will be able to decide whether or not they’d like to become another of Gwinnet County’s cities.
