City of Montebello to Increase Business License Fees

Council members agreed to increase business license fees last week; they didn’t yet decide by how much. The increase in licensing fees will help the city meet their new budget.

The Whittier Daily News reports that “Montebello has no reserves and has been deficit-spending since 2008.” In the 2011-2012 budget that council members worked out last Wednesday, however, there is an expected $1 million surplus in city finances.

Most of the license fees charged to local businesses are based on their gross profits. City officials will discuss the increased license rates in the next few weeks.
