Discover Pacific Beach Board Members found to be Underreporting on Business License Applications

March 5, 2012

In a shocking display of corruption by individuals claiming to be working for the city’s good, a recent audit has discovered over 10 cases of underreporting on San Diego, CA business license applications made by members of the Discover Pacific Beach organization. Since business license fees are based in part on the number of workers employed, the underreporting of employees is costing the city a total of $1,133 in unpaid fees each year.

Doug Sondomowicz, the owner of Pacific Beach Shore Club and a member of the board of Discover Pacific Beach, has filed his business license based on 3 employees instead of the 70 employees actually working at the club. This underreporting cost the city an annual $441 in unpaid fees. Worse yet, Sondomowicz’s underreporting cost the Discover Pacific Beach, the beach area’s business improvement district, which receives part of the business license funds, an annual $90 in fees.

Eric Lingenfelder, the overseer at Tavern by the Beach and Brewley's Pint and the President of Discover Pacific Beach has also been found to have underreported on his business license application, listing 20 employees instead of 50.

The Voice of San Diego reports that a city’s audit has revealed 23 cases of underreporting employee counts on business license applications. Current and former board members’ businesses accounted for more than half of the six-fold increase in employees discovered by the audit.

Being that the Discover Pacific Beach organization is in deficit to the tune of $20,000 and the board is responsible for this financial crisis the organization is facing, local residents find the boards’ display of corruption to be extremely objectionable.
