Fayetteville Auctions Assets of Unlicensed Businesses

February 20, 2012

Shutting them down was too small a penalty, city officials felt, for incompliance with Fayetteville, NC business license regulations. Instead, city officials decided to go the extra step and sell the assets of two unlicensed businesses.

As reported in an earlier post, city officials seized the equipment of SWAT Gaming Group and 777 Sweepstake, both of whom owe in excess of $200,000 in unpaid business privilege license fees. On Saturday, city officials auctioned off items like gambling machines, desktop computers and monitors, and even wall artwork and a gumball machine to the highest bidder.

The FayObserver quotes City Manager Dale Iman having said, "We are required by law to dispose of surplus property this way,"

All proceeds of the sale will be kept by the city as reimbursement of the unpaid business license fees.

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties as well as needless aggravation and problems. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which explains exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
