Fresno May Institute Peddlers Business License

Fresno City Council President Lee Brand is expected to propose an initiative that would require a peddlers license from all door-to-door vendors and solicitors.

Concerns from local residents over frequent, unwanted home visits by people posing as vendors and solicitors have prompted Brand to take action. Citizens are afraid that these so-called peddlers are in reality thieves looking for an unsuspecting victim.

In order to qualify for the Fresno business license, peddlers would have to affirm that they would only visit homes from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. and they would wear their picture I.D. as a badge while making house calls.

Residents who don’t want vendors or solicitors stepping foot on their property at all would be able to put up a ‘No Soliciting’ sign to notify would-be peddlers. Violation of a resident’s request not to solicit can result in a monetary fine or the suspension of one’s business license.

The Fresno Bee reports that “If the act passes there would be a 90-day grace period before it goes into effect. “
