Gilbert May Launch Second Phase of Business License Program

Gilbert council members met on Monday to discuss the second phase of the local business license program; the first phase was approved last November.

In the first phase, council members had changed the once-in-three-years business license application to a required annual license renewal. Also changed was the cost for obtaining a business license in Gilbert. While previously, business owners paid $36 once every three years, they are now required to pay $15 for license renewals each year. A new business license costs $35. The town was successful at implementing the first phase of the license program.

According to the AZ Central report of the second phase, it “adds an annual fire-inspection fee, an alarm-system fee and fees for consumer fireworks retailers.”

Councilmen expressed concern over the lack of clarity in the details of the second phase. They would like to see the particulars in a written proposal before voting on the plan.

Council members will meet again tonight to continue discussing the program.
