Maysville Flea Market Operating for 12 Years without a Business License

City officials have discovered a flea market open every weekend in Maysville City without possesing a Maysville Business License.

Current law in Maysville City allows residents to operate yard sales, selling second-hand products, up to twice a month without registering for a business license. However, Richard Lyles’s flea market selling used parts, was open every weekend, an amount of time which would require city licensing.

Upon discovery by the city, Lyles applied for a business license in order to be able to continue running his flea market. City officials unanimously voted against granting the license to Lyles.

According to Main Street Newspapers, “The zoning and planning board found Lyles in violation of the Maysville Land Use Code, as he was operating without a business license.”

It is possible that the law requiring Lyles to obtain a business license was put into effect after Lyles opened his business in 2000. It was, however, Lyles responsibility to come into compliance with city regulations once the law was passed.
