City of Morganton May Increase Business Privilege License Fees

Privilege license fees haven’t been raised in the City of Morganton for decades. However lost revenue due to the recession has pushed council members to consider raising costs for obtaining privilege licenses.

Proposed increases will be up to four times the original licensing cost but will not exceed a total charge of $100. The fee for any license that has already been over $100 won’t change.

Proposed fee changes will be subject to council members’ endorsement at the June 6, 2011 meeting and residents’ consent at a public hearing. If approved, license fee changes will go into effect July 1, 2011.

"I believe that our business owners will understand the need for this moderate increase," City Manager Sally Sandy said, as quoted on The City of Morganton’s website . "Morganton is a great place to live, work and do business, and we all have to work together to get through these difficult times."
