Nashville to Institute Valet Operating Business License

Nashville council members will vote next month on an ordinance that would create a valet operating license. All local valet parking businesses that use public roads will be obligated to purchase this license in addition to the already required parking permit.

City officials feel that the added business license will give them greater control over city valet parking businesses. To qualify for the license, valet parkers will have to carry current insurance liability, and conduct background checks on their employees. Cost for the license will be an annual $100.

The Tennessean quotes Councilman Ronnie Steine having called the intensified measures, an attempt to correct an “oversight.”

Council members need to vote a third time to approve passage of the ordinance and the mayor must authorize his consent before the bill becomes a law.
