Osceola County Institutes Strict Food Vendor License Regulations

Local food vendors have been petitioning in Osceola County for an ordinance that would create a permanent mobile vendors license. However, the recent enactment of an Osceola food vendors license came as a disappointment to would-be vendors because of the strict regulations to be enforced with the license.

Permanent food vendors would have to file a site plan near a permanent business, have public water, sewer and electrical connections and an accompanying dumpster. Additionally, vendors would have to get their vending business approved by city public hearings, an oftentimes expensive procedure.

Mobile vendors are complaining about the strict licensing policy, citing neighboring counties who have much easier regulations in place for mobile vendor licenses.

Since enacting the ordinance, Osceola County hasn’t received even one application for a food vendor’s license. "They've made the restrictions so heavy that it is almost not worth it for a small business to go through all of that and spend that much money," Jimmy Cheney, who was selling roasted chicken on a temporary license out of his Chicken Shack truck, told an Orlando Sentinel Correspondent.
