Pahrump Business License Ordinance May be Revised

The Town of Pahrump is giving residents an opportunity to give their opinions on how to rewrite the town’s business license ordinance. At a board meeting last week, the Pahrump Libertarian Party complained about the town’s licensing regulations and suggested repealing them. Instead, board members recommended using town workshops to discuss altering the licensing system.

As board member Dr. Tom Waters said, (quoted in Pahrump Valley Times,) “When we talk about the biz license ordinance, and I agree that many of the citizens don’t like everything in the ordinance, but we don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. What we need to do is look at it, we need to fix it, and we can do that. Because we have workshops already scheduled with the businesses, I think we’ll have pretty good input as to what works for the businesses in town.”

Town manager, Bill Kohbarger, suggested going paperless with the licensing process. Filling out and filing business license applications on a state, county and city level can be a confusing and wearisome chore. By going paperless, business owners would be able to submit an approved state or county business license to the town and receive a local business license without needing to fill out any more forms.
