Rapid City Issues its First Street Vendor Permits

The Rapid City Council passed an ordinance in 2009 creating a street vendor permit. For the past 2 years no one applied for those permits. When a local businessman applied for 10 of the 12 available street vendor permits, he was granted all 10 of them.

John Ashley, owner of the Stardust Motel in North Rapid ordered one hot dog cart and he plans on rotating his cart between all 10 locations.

Rapid City Journal reports regarding licensing requirements for mobile food vending permits, “Applicants must also get an annual license from the City Finance Office and provide proof of a state Department of Health food license.”

According to city planning manager Vicki Fisher, if the need arises for more street vending locations, the city will approve additional spots.
