Richmond Raises the Bar on Doing Business without a License

November 14, 2011

City commissioners discussed the possibility of raising the bar on individuals who conduct business in the city without obtaining a Richmond, KY business license.

At a meeting last Tuesday, November 9, 2011, commissioners reviewed the first reading of an ordinance that would make operating a business without a license a criminal offense. Violators will get one warning from city officials before being penalized with a fine of up to $500 and/or 180 days in jail.

Bill Robinson reports in The Richmond Register that if the ordinance will pass it will include a clause that would require of employees of out-of-town firms doing business in Richmond to have a copy of their employer’s business license and produce it at the request of a city employee.
