San Juan Business License Amnesty Program Begins This Week

Businesses who have not yet registered for their 2011 business licenses have another chance to do so with the San Juan Business License Amnesty Program. The program will run from Thursday, May 19 through November 15 to ensure voluntary compliance to business licensing by all merchants in the city of San Juan Capistrano, California.

Businesses who register for their licenses and permits within the six month grace period won’t have to pay fees and penalties until after the amnesty is up.

The program also covers businesses who have not registered for licenses in the past three years.

According to The Orange County Register Communications, “The amnesty period is designed for city officials to educate business owners about the requirements for doing business in San Juan and to allow those who don't have a license to get one without penalty.”

The flat fee for acquiring licenses in San Juan, California is $68.00 for a commercial-based business license, $58.00 per home-based business license, with an additional $5.00 per employee and $25.00 if the owner of the business is a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer or an accountant. Business license renewals cost $36.00.

Although mandatory business license compliance was enacted two years ago, many businesses did not abide by the city laws and are not properly registered. City officials hope that the amnesty program will increase the number of businesses registering for 2011 licenses.
