Santa Ana Mayor Found to be Operating Unlicensed Business

March 21, 2012

Honest, law-abiding citizens get annoyed when they hear about business license scofflaws. The annoyance oftentimes turns into anger when they learn about a scofflaw that also happens to be a well-known politician. A recent write up about Mayor Miguel Pulido and his laxity in paying Santa Ana, CA business license fees has riled up local residents about the corruption of their elected officials.

Voice of Orange County reports, “In every year since 2004, Pulido has listed Orange as the location of his consulting firm, The LaFarga Group, according to disclosure forms filed with Santa Ana City Hall. Officials in Orange have no record of Pulido's business having acquired a license, making him potentially delinquent on the tax for several years.”

The fact that a public officer has flouted local business license regulations for so long leaves many people astounded. It has also opened up questions on the city’s reliability in ensuring business license compliance.

Paul Sitkoff, business and public affairs manager for Orange, explains this how this is allowed to happen. “We don't have the manpower to go culling through many reams of documents from the state looking for this information,” Sitkoff said. “At the moment we're satisfied.”

Although the city’s laxity allowed Pulido to operate an unlicensed business for years without repercussion, incompliance with basic business license regulations will hurt him tremendously in the public arena.

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties as well as needless aggravation and problems. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which explains exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
