Schaumburg may Increase Business License Fees

September 26, 2011

Village board members will meet tomorrow to discuss the possibility of raising Schaumburg, IL business license fees.

TribLocal reports that business license fees weren’t increased in the village for the past two years. “We review (the fee schedule) every year, and for the past two years there have not been any inflationary changes,” said Revenue Manager Donna Leck.

At this point, though, rising inflation costs prompted village officials to review current business license fees. When they compared them to those charged by neighboring communities, board members decided that increasing licensing fees is an option that should be explored.

The staff time necessary to process each business license will be the determining factor in how much the license fees would be increased. While most licenses may only be increased by 2-3%, peddler’s licenses which require the most staff time may be increased by up to 70%.

If passed, the new business license fees will go into effect for the first of next calendar year.
