Solicitors Now Required to Have Business License in Surprise City

In response to numerous complaints regarding unwanted solicitors showing up at residents’ homes, council members instituted a number of regulations to would-be solicitors. One of which is the requirement that they obtain a Surprise City Business License.

City officials feel that by compelling solicitors to obtain a business license, they can keep greater control over the solicitors and their abidance to city rules.

Residents who wish to, can avoid all solicitors by leaving a ‘No Solicitors’ sign in their front yard. If a solicitor violates this request, the resident can report the violation to city officials by calling the Surprise Code Enforcement Division at 623-222-3013 during regular business hours, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

“People supporting religion, philosophy, ideology political party or candidates are exempt from the provisions of the ordinance,” AZCentral reports.

This ordinance went into effect on May 12, 2011.
