Sonora may waive some Business License Fees

Empty storefronts line commercial strips in Sonora, California. In response, city leaders have been looking for ways to boost the local economy and start the upward financial spiral. They have discussed instituting a Business Incentives Program as a means of attracting industries to choose Sonora as their preferred business headquarters.

The Sonora, CA business license costs are dependent on the amount of staff a business retains; with a charge of $145 for employing 1-3 workers, and a charge of $245 for employing 4-12 employees. This is in addition to the $30 occupancy fee charged for opening a business in Sonora.

My Mother Lode reports that as part of the Business Incentives Program, city officials suggest lowering or waiving business license fees for new businesses.

As Tim Miller, Sonora City Administrator said, “"They are doing things like waiving business license fees, waiving some of the impact fees, and other things that startup businesses would have to pay to the city.”

City staff will vote on the Business Incentives Program and the accompanying business license fee waivers in the near future.
