South Tucson May Increase Business License Fees

In an economically strapped city, business owners may be feeling the pinch a bit more if council members agree to quadruple business license fees from $12 to $50.

Although the increase wouldn’t get rid of South Tucson’s $1 million budget deficit, it would help a bit. As Tucson City Manager Enrique Serna described the increased business license fees, "It's a drop in the bucket."

Other options to help the budget deficit would mean cutting jobs and benefits from local police and firemen.

If the councilmen will approve the business license fee changes, they could go into effect as early as August of this year.
