Southern Nevada to Set Up Multi-Jurisdiction Business License

Nevada legislatures passed an ordinance that calls for the creation of a unified contractors business license across parts of Southern Nevada. Contractors would be able to apply for one business license that would cover participating jurisdictions instead of having to apply for separate business licenses in each city.

Contractors will still be required to pay business license fees for each individual city, but they will be able to pay it all in one lump sum when they apply for the license.

In order to implement the multi-jurisdictional license, participating cities will have to set up a joined code of contractor business license forms and regulations. As Alan Choate wrote in the Las Vegas Review – Journal, “Within the contractor category, definitions, requirements, renewal dates and the like differ, meaning the governments will have to come up with a unified ordinance with one set of rules.”

The system is set to go into effect next year, on June 17, 2012. Clark County’s three largest cities and Boulder City are the first localities to participate in the program.

The cities are hoping to adapt the unified business license system in the future to other mobile businesses.
