Texas, Proposal would Increase Pest Control Business License Fees by 57%

The Texas Department of Agriculture has introduced a proposal that would increase pest control business license fees by 57%.

If the proposal would pass, Texas business licenses for pest control applicants would increase from $180 to $280. The more than $1 million in annual revenue generated by the increase in licensing fees would be apportioned to the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Jimmy Bush, Assistant Commissioner for Pesticides says that the increase in licensing fees is essential in order to finance a new pest control program. As detailed in the proposed rules, “The charging of the fee is necessary to enable the continued operation of a leaner, cost-efficient program due to a new Legislative requirement that this program generate revenue to completely offset its cost.”
