Union Cracks Down on Unlicensed Businesses

Four local businesses who have not yet applied for their Union, MO business license renewals may soon land up in court.

The $30 business license renewals were due at the end of April, 2011. Although the city requires certain regulations to be met before issuing business license renewals, such as the payment of state sales tax, the four businesses have already had five months to take care of any possible issues.

City officials warned the four businesses, Classic Auto Tech, The Exchange, Buchheit Automotive and Cloud Manufacturing/Greenway Manufacturing, by e-mail, snail mail and personally of their impending court cases.

EMissourian.com quotes Community Development Director Joseph Graves having said, “We surely don’t want to bully businesses out of the city, but when more than 600 other businesses are playing by the rules, everybody needs to play by the rules.”

The businesses face fines up to $500 a day for operating a business without a license.
