Unlicensed Cab Service Denied Cumming Business License

March 7, 2012

Council members chose to deny William A. Mainard Jr. a "public convenience" license to operate his taxi service after learning that Mainard has been running his cab in the city without first receiving a Cumming, GA business license.

City officials conducted a public hearing before denying Mainard a city business license. Mainard maintained that his 24 hour cab service is a much needed commodity for individuals trying to get home from bars or hospitals in middle of the night, claiming that Northside Hospital Forsyth has called him on numerous occasions to drive home patients and their relatives. Other local cab drivers argued that they are already servicing whatever needs exist in the community.

NorthFulton.com reports that Mayor H. Ford Gravitt was unimpressed with Mainard’s stance as he should not have been taking calls from the hospital before having obtained the proper Cumming public convenience license.

“Mainard, who has a Forsyth County business license, said when he started his 24-7 taxi service business, he continued to service the hospital, which to his knowledge was part of the county, not within the Cumming city limits.”

The mayor still recommended that the public convenience license not be granted to someone who had previously flouted the city’s license regulations and the council followed his recommendations by unanimously voting against granting Mainard a Cumming business license.
