Augusta may Increase Alcohol License Fees

The motion to increase Augusta, GA alcohol license fees that was dismissed last year may be revived again. The proposed 10 percent increase to the already swollen license fees would bring in an additional $100,000 of revenue to city coffers.

Restaurants, taverns and bars would be left with the difficult decision of covering those increases themselves or passing them on to customers.

WRDW reports that the motion to increase the cost of obtaining local alcohol licenses was proposed too late to have it pass for last years’ licensing budget. City officials have avoided the setback this year by beginning to work on the ordinance early on.

A public hearing would have to be set before The Augusta Public Services Committee approves the alcohol license fee increases.
