Ayer Town Board Discusses Closure of Unlicensed Businesses

January 20, 2012

Two town eateries have been operating this year without obtaining the necessary Ayer, MA victualler's licenses. Town selectmen discussed possible action that could be taken by the town to enforce the restaurants’ compliance with Ayer business license regulations.

Nashoba Publishing reports that both Kentucky Fried Chicken off the Route 2A/Route 11 Carlton Circle rotary and Wholesome Café at 25 Main St. have been selling food to the public without renewing their Ayer victualler’s licenses.

"’They didn't pay for renewal so legally they cannot operate,’ said Conley. ‘It's Jan. 10. If they don't have a license, they should not open, period.’ Conley pondered if the Police Department or building inspector should be deployed to enforce the matter. But she urged alacrity in shutting the illicit operations down.”

In a unanimous vote by the town board, selectmen agreed that Town Administrator Robert Pontbriand will contact the errant eateries and ensure their compliance with local business license filing regulations with the threat of closure for incompliance.
