City Officials Meet to Consider Issuing Brewpub Business License in Bismarck, ND

City officials are considering issuing a business license to allow for the opening of brewpubs and microbreweries in Bismarck, North Dakota. The first reading for the proposed license will be held today, Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

If approved, the license would allow individuals to open a pub or restaurant that brews beer on premises. Brewers would also be allowed to sell their beer to other stores, bars and restaurants.

Many residents of Bismarck are in favor of this license and some already have plans of opening their own brewpubs.

As quoted in The Bismarck Tribune, “I’ve heard from more than one entity in this,” said Commissioner Josh Askvig. “There are people in Bismarck who brew their own beer and want to make a business out of it.”

If the city approves of the license, individuals would also have to procure a state liquor license as well as permission from the state to manufacture alcohol for sale.
