Dewey Barber Chevrolet Requests Warrior Business License Discounts
Representatives of Dewey Barber Chevrolet requested a discount on their Warrior, AL business license fees, in addition to requesting a sales tax abatement. With car sales on a decline, the dealer is looking for ways of lowering the costs involved in running their business.
Council members were hesitant to grant either of the cost breaks requested. Some councilors were afraid that by issuing discounts and abatements to one company, they would be inundated with similar requests from other local businesses.
The North Jefferson News reports, “City clerk Demetra Mixon warned the council that granting the request could make many other businesses follow suit and ask for their own abatements.”
They did decide to offer the company a 15 percent savings on sales tax for the next five years. The issuance of vehicle dealer license discounts, however, is still up for further discussion.
