Greenacres to Increase Business License Fees

Council members unanimously voted to increase Greenacres business license fees by approximately 5% beginning October 1, 2011. City officials decided to increase the price of business licenses after comparing Greenacres fees to those of neighboring cities.

Examples of license cost increases are the amusement and vending machine licenses whose fees will be increased from $127.62 to $134.

Businesses, whose licensing costs are comparable to those of neighboring cities, won’t be subject to any fee changes. For example, restaurant and food vendors currently pay a business license fee of $203.75. This is higher than what other Palm Beach County cities are charging so Greenacres won’t increase their licensing charges any further.

City officials estimate that the increase in licensing fees will generate an additional $8,000 in city revenue next year.

The city is also trying to ease the licensing process. As detailed in the Palm Beach Post, “One change allows business owners to obtain their licenses without a prior inspection but requires them to schedule and pass the inspection within 30 days of applying for the license.”
