City of Henderson Creates New Business License Class for Buy-Back Recycler

In order to legalize the opening of the city’s first buy-back recycler, Henderson, Nevada officials have created a new class of business licenses. The second-hand dealer Class 2 license will now have a Category B for recycling companies.

The original licensing ordinances called for recycling facilities to be classified with second-hand shops, of which the city only granted 12 business licenses. When Sean Sanford and Jeromy Slater wanted to open Henderson’s first buy-back recycler all licenses were already taken by jewelers and pawn shops.

"But we worked with the city and the city worked with us by coming up with a new classification,” Sanford said as quoted in The Henderson Press. “That's what I call history in the making."

The city has granted Sanford and Slater a six-month temporary operating permit to allow the owners to open the facility before receiving a permanent license.

The new recycling center is slated to open this week.

Residents can now get cash back for recycling items like plastic, metal, paper, and cell phones instead of trashing them.
