Hendersonville Council Rules against Business License Fee Reductions
Hendersonville city council rejected a proposal by Councilman Jerry Smith to lower business privilege license fees for larger businesses operating in the city.
According to The Tribune Papers, “Smith suggested the fee break to lessen the load on ‘small businesses’ during recessionary times.”
Large businesses must pay four times the original surcharge fee charged with licensing costs on annual gross earnings above $500,000. Smith suggested charging this fee only to businesses earning above $1 million; lowering the license costs significantly for businesses earning between $500,000 to $1 million annually.
His proposal was rejected in a 3-2 vote by council members last week.
