Macon Hires Collection Company to go after Unlicensed Businesses

January 23, 2012

Council members unanimously approved a motion to hire NCO Financial Systems of New Bern, N.C., an outside collection company, to go after businesses who haven’t yet renewed their Macon, GA business licenses.

The city estimates it is owed a total of $700,000 in unpaid fees of  long-overdue bills mainly from unpaid business license fees and city landfill fees.

Macon.com reports that the city hopes to recover only half of the fees that are owed to them. “NCO will get to keep 15.5 percent of what it collects. That should still net the city $200,000 to $300,000.”

Local businesses are urged to come into compliance with city business license filings before being contacted by the collection company.
