Mass Raid Leads to Arrest of 14 Unlicensed Contractors

January 27, 2012

14 contractors were cited last week for offering contracting services in excess of $500 without obtaining the necessary contractors licenses and business licenses.

In a mass raid conducted by the Contractors State License Board, investigators uncovered 14 contractors operating without both Merced County business licenses and Delhi, CA business licenses. The investigators posed as homeowners and requested services from contractors. Since the state law requires contractors offering services in excess of $500 be properly licensed, the superior court cited the unlicensed contractors who offered services costing more than $500.

Patterson Irrigator reports that “All 14 suspects were fined $50 by the county, in Delhi, or the city of Merced for failure to obtain a county or city business license.”

The 14 are expected to appear at the Merced County Courthouse on March 13, 2012.

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties as well as needless aggravation and problems. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which explains exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
