Onancock Officials Retract Hot Dog Cart Vendor’s Business License

After issuing an Onancock business license to Wayne Bal for three years, town officials suspended the license citing an existing zoning ordinance that does not allow hot dog carts to operate in the town.

Bal is incensed as he claims a competitor incited authorities to revoke his vendors license. As explained in DelMarva Now, “A complaint from a competing hot dog vendor raised questions and resulted in an opinion from the town attorney that Bal's business was not operating legally.”

Upon challenging the ruling against his business, Bal was told of two possible options to enable him to continue making sales. He could either pay the $250 charge for the town to change their zoning ordinance, or he could apply for an equally costly special use permit. Unfortunately, with all the money invested in running his business, both of these options are too expensive for Bal to consider.
