Oxnard Changes Business License Renewals to Anniversary Month

The City of Oxnard will no longer be processing business license renewals at the end of the fiscal year, July – June. Instead business owners are requested to file for their Oxnard business license renewals prior to the month when they originally obtained their business licenses.

As explained on the City of Oxnard website, “As of July 1, 2011, the City will no longer renew business license/tax certificates on a fiscal year (July to June) basis. Business taxes will be due each year on the anniversary month they were obtained.”

During this transitional stage, businesses are requested to file for license renewals for the amount of months from July until their original license anniversary month.

For example, if a business started up in the month of February, they are now requested to file for their license renewals from July until the end of January. They are then requested to file for license renewals before the month of February each year.

Business owners are also given the option of filing for a full year ahead when filing now. For example for a business whose license anniversary is in February, the owner can file from July until February 2012 and for a business license for the February 2012 – February 2013 year as well.

City officials instituted this system as a way of spreading the load of licensing renewals throughout the year instead of having a very intense two months at the end of every fiscal year.
