Two Business Owners Pay up Four Years of Unpaid Business License Fees in Leadville

February 1, 2012

Threats of court appearances have caused two unlicensed businesses to pay up four years worth of unpaid Leadville, CO business license fees last week.

Altitudes Health and Fitness LLC, owned by Kelly Harcrow and a property rental business owned by Mark Yare have received numerous letters and notices by the local police over the past few years regarding their incompliance with city business license regulations. The city finally issued tickets to the businesses requiring them to pay up or appear in court.

The city business license costs an annual $50; a total of $200 for the past four years. The city did not add on any extra fees and charges for late payments, thought they did threaten fines up to $1,000 if the businesses wouldn’t pay up by the court date set for February 22, 2012.

Herald Democrat reports that “A third business owner, Bill Korn, had yet to be contacted by the Leadville Police Department to receive his ticket. He also is four years behind on his fee.” Other businesses are also behind in their business license payments and the city will address those businesses’ incompliance in the near future.

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which explains exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
