Businesses may save on Licensing Fees in Philadelphia

October 25, 2011

City Councilman James Kenney has proposed a plan that could save businesses thousands of dollars in business license fees and business privilege taxes.

According to Kenney’s plan, new businesses who hire at least five Philadelphia residents for full-time positions during their opening year and at least another five residents during the second year of business would be eligible for business license tax breaks.

PhillyTrib reports that if Kenney’s proposal gets approved, new business owners would not have to pay any fees when applying for a Philadelphia, PA business license. They also wouldn’t have to pay any business license tax during the first two years of operation.

“We’re just getting you in the door to get your business open. So, you open your business and you don’t pay any of these fees. No zoning fees. Nothing,” he said. “We get you up and running and then on the third year you go back on the tax rolls just like everybody else.”

Kenney’s goal is to lower the unemployment figures in Philadelphia which has climbed to above 10% during the past year.

Business license changes occur in different localities each day. Large businesses can save the time and effort it would take to uncover changes in each branch location by outsourcing business license management to licensing experts. Business Licenses’ Outsourced Business License Management Service allows big businesses to outsource business license filing, maintenance and renewal for all their required business licenses & permits with every licensing authority in the U.S.
