Chapel Hill Institutes Mobile Food Vendor License

February 8, 2012

After 16 months of discussion, council members voted their approval to an ordinance that will establish the Chapel Hill, NC mobile food vendor license. Chapel Hill follows in the footsteps of nearby Carrboro, Raleigh and Hillsborough who have since instituted their own business licenses to allow for the sale of food by mobile vendors.

The business license fees placed on applicants of the mobile food vendors license are expensive. Joe Schwartz details those fees in Indy Week. “Vendors must pay $743 annually to do business. That includes $118 for a zoning permit, $25 for a privilege license and $600 per truck to pay for code enforcement.”

Additionally, mobile vendors will have to comply with town regulations in order to obtain their Chapel Hill business license. For example, they may only set up their vending truck on private commercial properties.

Business license changes occur in different localities each day. Large businesses can save the time and effort it would take to uncover changes in each branch location by outsourcing business license management to licensing experts.
