Clark County Cracks Down on Unlicensed Businesses

November 21, 2011

Clark County Commissioners are working out a way to weed out unlicensed businesses. They have found that while most businesses follow the necessary procedure of obtaining a city business license, many of them are unaware of the necessity of obtaining a county business license.

The topic of unlicensed businesses has been raised and chewed over at the past couple of commissioners’ meetings. Efforts on the part of county officials have already succeeded in finding 721 businesses that did not have Clark, CA business licenses. A whooping $1.3 million was generated for licensing those businesses. County officials are convinced that there are many more businesses out there that do not have the county business license. Revenue generated from finding and licensing these businesses can help fill county coffers.

The issue was brought to the forefront again when a fairly large business, First Class Vending Inc., was found to be operating without a county business license. It is hard to tell how much revenue the county has lost out in licensing fees as Clark County vendors license fees are based on a company’s gross income.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that Southern Nevada Regional Planning Commission is working on a unified business license. Business owners would file one form and pay one fee for a license that would be valid in all jurisdictions in Clark County.
