Council Discusses Eutawville Business License Ordinance

March 5, 2012

Close to a year after council members unanimously voted to change the Eutawville, SC business license ordinance, council members gathered again to discuss the change and the negative impact it has had on some local businesses.

In June of 2011, council members agreed to change the Eutawville business license fee system to one based on gross income instead of flat rates. The new system caused a sharp increase in business license fees for some local businesses.

For example, the IGA supermarket in Eutawville paid $13,915.82 in business license fees this year as opposed to its previous licensing charge of $325.

The T and D reports that council members discussed IGA’s protest to the business license fee change at its February 14 meeting. No conclusion was set on whether or not the city will consider changing the fee system again.
