Fox Lake Police Close Unlicensed Fitness Center

April 2, 2012

American Muscle and Fitness in Ingleside has been closed by police for operating without the requisite Fox Lake, IL and Lake County business licenses.

Village inspectors first discovered these violations as well as numerous health violations at an inspection that was done on February 16. They gave the owner, Reggie Thompson, time to correct the issues and apply for the necessary licenses. When Thompson was slow in complying, village officials first fined him and then closed down his fitness center.

According to the Northwest Herald, Thompson owes a lot of money in unpaid licenses and permits. “Fox Lake Deputy Clerk Carol Ward said that Thompson failed to secure a business fee of $55 and an inspection fee of $50 – for a total of $105 a year. He also failed to secure the needed permits from the Lake County Health Department. David Groh, environmental health practitioner, said business needed a change of ownership permit – $155 – and an annual $276 health permit enabling it to serve smoothies.”

Thompson informed worried patrons, through a post on his website, that the shut-down is only temporary and that he is working with village officials to reopen as soon as possible.
