Immigration Regulations Complicate Gwinnett Business License Filings

January 30, 2012

A new immigration law passed by the Georgia General Assembly last year, now known as the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act, has slightly complicated Gwinnett, GA business license applications and renewals.

Business owners will now have to fill out an extra form with their business license applications, known in Gwinnett as occupation tax certificate applications.

As reported in Gwinnett Business Journal “The first requirement calls for any person, corporation or LLC seeking a public benefit—such as an occupation tax certificate (business license), alcohol license or contract—to submit a Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) affidavit and present a secure and verifiable document as approved by the state Attorney General. Examples of the approved documents include a driver’s license, passport or legal immigrant documentation.”

In addition, larger corporations employing 500 workers or more will have to check the legal status of their employees using the national e-verify online program.

The county has removed the mail-in option for business license renewals; as such businesses are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses, LLC’s Business License Filing Services. Licensing professionals can file your business licenses with every licensing authority in the nation, ensuring compliance with all government licensing regulations.
