Mesquite Mayor Vows to Review Business License Fee Ordinance

February 2, 2012

In his first State of the City address, Mayor Mark Wier promised to continue the city’s process of becoming more “business friendly.” Included in the business issues to be addressed by city officials are the Mesquite, NV business license fees and how they are calculated.

The city currently charges business license fees based on gross revenues of local businesses, causing some larger businesses to pay fees in the tens of thousands of dollars. Wier feels that this is unfair to large businesses, as he stated in the State of the City address, “We need to revisit our business license fee structures this year and eliminate the gross revenue fees and find a better way.”

He suggested considering “a lesser of evils” such as square footage or employees as a way of determining business license fees.

DVT Online reports that as part of the movement to become more ‘business friendly’, the city has recently improved the business licensing process by moving the business license department to the planning department in order “to create a one-stop shop for companies seeking to start a business in Mesquite.”

Business license changes occur in different localities each day. Large businesses can save the time and effort it would take to uncover changes in each branch location by outsourcing business license management to licensing experts. Business Licenses’ Outsourced Business License Management Service allows big businesses to outsource business license filing, maintenance and renewal for all their required business licenses & permits with every licensing authority in the U.S.
