Pike County to Establish Food License

March 13, 2012

After years of ironing out the details, county board members have publicized their intention of passing an ordinance that would mandate the acquirement of a Pike, IL business license for all county food establishments.

In order to qualify for the county food license, food vendors will be subject to an inspection by the health department. While getting the license will be free, those food establishments that operate without the requisite food license and health inspection will be subject to fines up to $1,000.

As My Journal Courier reports, “A $500 fine could also be imposed for operating a business for 30 days without a license. New businesses would be fined $50 a day if they opened without first obtaining a license.”

Those found to be in violation of safety regulations will also be fined.

County board members will vote on the Pike County food license ordinance at its next board meeting on March 26, 2012. If passed, the ordinance is expected to go into effect as early as July 1, 2012.
