Fresno Officials Crack Down on Unlicensed Repair Shops

City law enforcement officers spent two days last week pursuing auto repair shops who had been operating without a Fresno business license. Tommy Tran, an investigative reporter for ABC30, reports that numerous shops were found operating without an automotive repair license or with an expired business license.

While unlicensed shops may offer cheap labor, they oftentimes are run by unscrupulous individuals, many of whom do not comply with automotive regulations. Customers of unlicensed repair shops in Fresno have complained of paying money up front, only to be left with a car that was not repaired properly.

The city crackdown can ultimately help residents save money by eliminating auto repair shops that could even literally ‘take their care for a ride.’ Owners of unlicensed repair shops can be slapped with a $1,000 penalty and/or up to six months of prison time.
