Hawthorne Officials Evict Unlicensed Food Trucks

City officials evicted mobile food vendors last week from an unregistered food event for not carrying the proper Hawthorne business licenses.

Glenn Debaca, a Carson-based event promote, satisfied local demand by arranging a weekly mobile food fair in front of a Best Buy store. She failed, however, to obtain the necessary business licenses and permits to legalize such an event.

City officials are suggesting writing an ordinance that would legalize mobile food fairs if the vendors are properly licensed. As Mayor Larry Guidi told a Daily Breeze reporter, “I like the idea of having a special events permit so we can control it and collect fees."

Debaca is hoping that the ordinance will be passed before the end of the summer so that residents can still benefit from mobile fast-food fairs while the weather permits it.
