Henry County Fines Unlicensed Business, $14,039

November 7, 2011

Henry County authorities have discovered that Premier K-9, an animal training and kennel services company, had been conducting business with a revoked business license as well as without a breeder’s permit.

Further investigation revealed that the unlicensed business had been taking advantage of the lack of regulations by authorities in that they provided services to the dogs in unsanitary conditions. While Premier K-9’s website boasts “Cleanliness is as important to us as it is to you so we clean all of our kennels twice daily with a veterinarian recommended disinfectant and deodorizer,” authorities found the kennels to be filthy.

As Christopher Seward describes in AJC.com, “Conditions at the kennel suggested a long-term lack of proper care for animals, authorities said. During a visit in September, inspectors found a general lack of sanitation, including debris, animal waste on the floor, animals with feces matted to their hair, piles of dog hair, overflowing sinks and thick spider webs everywhere. A dead animal was also found in a bag.”

The owner, Art Washington was fined $14,039 for operating an unlicensed business and for not properly treating the dogs in his care.

County officials are urging residents to only conduct business with companies that have a valid Henry County business license in order to avoid being the victim of similar mishaps.
