Indianapolis City Files Lawsuit against Unlicensed Motel

City officials have filed a lawsuit against Traveler's Inn on the Far Southside for operating without a City of Indianapolis business license. By suing the hotel, the city hopes to recover approximately $250,000 of money spent by the police department to finance frequent law enforcement activity at the inn.

Local residents have expressed astonishment that city officials have allowed the hotel to operate all this time without a proper city business license. Especially since, as IndyStar reports, “police made more than 1,200 runs to the property from July 2008 to June 2011 to investigate criminal, public safety and nuisance complaints.”

Initial police reports are unclear as to whether or not the inn has been operating since its opening without a business license or if the owners lost the license recently.

A court hearing is scheduled for August 15, 2011.
