Macon May Require an Additional Permit from Peddlers

In response to the growing number of complaints regarding door-to-door salesmen, Macon council members will discuss possible measures to regulate solicitors’ activities. The most notable suggestion by city officials is the resolution that would require peddlers to obtain a new solicitors’ business permit.

To qualify for the permit, solicitors would have to follow city guidelines, such as only visiting residents’ homes at certain hours. As detailed by Lauren DiSpirito, in 13WMAZ, the resolution “would require solicitors wear a badge identifying themselves. It would make it illegal to visit homes door-to-door between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 a.m., and on Sundays and holidays.”

The resolution would affect both sections of Macon’s charter.

Council members plan on rewriting the resolution before discussing it a council meeting in two weeks time.
